When the puck drops at 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Tim Hortons 4-Ice Centre, it will mark the start of "Canada's geekiest sporting event."

The 2007 edition of Geeks on Ice is a chance for technology professionals from across Atlantic Canada to abandon their computers, lace up their skates and gather to promote health and wellness, network and raise funds in partnership with the United Way of Greater Moncton.

"Our goal is to raise $6,000 for the United Way to purchase computer equipment and software for non-profit charitable agencies throughout Southeastern New Brunswick," said Trevor MacAusland, committee co-chairman for the 2007 event.

For those without skates, GeekFest will take place at Dooly's on April 21 featuring billiards, Hockey Night in Canada and prizes.

Two tickets to the Faith Hill and Tim McGraw Country Rocks the Hill Concert are up for grabs in the Great Geek Raffle. Raffle tickets may be purchased through the United Way office at 506-858-8600 or office@moncton.unitedway.ca and will be sold during the tournament. Price is $2 each or 3 for $5.

Players interested in filling the few remaining roster spots can ask at geeksonice@gmail.com or www.GeeksOnIce.com

Geeks on Ice would like to thank its 2007 sponsors Whitehill Technologies, Inc., G4 Tech TV, Government of New Brunswick, Wild Rose Inn, YourteamOnline.ca and Rising Stars. Prize donors include Red Bull and NRC.
