Whitehill Technologies one of the Top 3 “Movers and Shakers” in Canadian IT, according to the Branham 300

MONCTON, NB, Canada - March 21, 2007 - Whitehill Technologies has been named one of the Top Three “Movers and Shakers” on the 2007 Branham 300, an independent annual ranking of the 300 largest information technology (IT) companies in Canada.

The “Movers and Shakers” list represents companies that, through remarkable performance, showed the most significant increases in their rankings compared to the 2006 Branham listing.

Thanks to its 142% revenue growth, Whitehill rocketed up 48 places on the Branham ranking—from 143rd to 95th—making it one of the Top Three “Movers and Shakers” of the year.

This is the first time that Whitehill Technologies has cracked the Top 100 on the Branham rankings. Based on annual reported revenues, Whitehill is now the 25th largest software vendor in Canada, and the 5th largest privately held software company.

“Leapfrogging 48 places really is a tremendous achievement, especially when you consider our size,” says Paul McSpurren, President & CEO, Whitehill Technologies, Inc. “Growth like this is pretty rare among companies as well established as ours.” Whitehill served its 1,000th customer this year, and has 200 employees working at multiple locations in Canada and the United States.

“What isn’t mentioned in the rankings, but which is even more important, is that Whitehill achieved all of this growth while remaining profitable,” McSpurren continues. “Whitehill bases its business philosophy on three pillars: innovation, customer satisfaction, and business performance. Our entire staff made a great team effort to achieve tremendous growth over the past year, and to maintain our track record of high customer satisfaction.”

The Branham Group provides “go to market” direction to IT product and service companies. The Branham 300 listing, published annually in the March issue of Backbone Magazine, is a ranking by revenue of the top Canadian IT companies. The listing offers a snapshot of the Canadian IT market, and has become an important gauge by which IT companies are measured. The complete Branham 300 listing is available at www.backbonemag.com.

Saint John, New Brunswick, March 20, 2007 – Two companies presented under propelsj 's launch32 campaign to see 32 new ICT companies in the city in 36 months have been recognized in the Branham Group's Top 25 Canadian Up and Comers List. Ambir and Mariner Partners were both recognized in the list comprised of young companies that have differentiated themselves by creating innovative products and services in interesting fields of information technology.

This announcement comes as the launch32 campaign builds momentum with propelsj recently announcing five (5) new companies to its list of new local ICT companies: YourTeam Online, Transetix GSI, Marius Search Consulting, Radian6 Technologies, and Open Ocean Systems. These five companies bring the total to 16 launch32 companies who have created jobs and established themselves in Saint John.

Now in its fourteenth year, the Branham300 continues to highlight the top Canadian ICT companies. It represents a truly insightful piece of intelligence on the Canadian information technology market. The listing has become pre-eminent the world over as the authoritative health indicator of the information technology industry in Canada.

"Ambir is thrilled to be recognized by the Branham Group as one of Canada's Top 25 Up & Coming companies along with Mariner Partners" said Jeff Sheehan of Ambir. "We believe in launch32 and this effort to substantially improve the sector through recognition of our shared value and cooperation within our local companies. The Branham Group ranking helps to extend this effort for our local sector."

"We have a team of exceptional professionals both within our company and within our local industry and we are very pleased to receive this recognition that reflects the calibre and quality of service and products coming from the New Brunswick ICT industry", said Mariner Partners President Curtis Howe.

"In our most recent survey, launch32 companies to date have created over 300 jobs, an exciting example of true growth as we continue to build the foundation for a local ecosystem of innovation, collaboration, and growth" said Jeff Roach, Executive Director of Catalict, the propelsj technology accelerator launched in October.

About Open Ocean Systems
Open Ocean Systems Inc. (OOSI) is pursuing a strategic market opportunity focused on the deployment of breakthrough cage containment and farming systems technology within the emerging Open Ocean Aquaculture sector.

Founded in November of 2005, Open Ocean Systems Inc. is a knowledge based company with a global reach and outlook. Based in Saint John, OOSI is totally focused on export markets. Company founder, Andrew Storey, has many years of experience in the international and local aquaculture sectors and is confident that the timing and its technology will meet the challenges of this new environment.

Aquaculture has been an extremely successful method of producing food and now supplies over 30% of the world's seafood consumption. Population and per capita consumption increases as well as other factors are expected to push this to over 50% over the next 15 years, creating both challenges and opportunities for the sector.

Within that farmed seafood sector, the open ocean aquaculture (OOA) sector (which can best be described as marine fish farming activities outside of sheltered coastal areas) is anticipated to grow at an exponential rate over the next decade with billions of dollars in infrastructure and technology expenditures required to fuel this growth. While challenging, the ability to farm within this environment presents a number of benefits, opening up a huge potential pasture from which to meet future seafood demand in a sustainable fashion.

In 2007, the company will be carrying out Beta tests focused on commercializing its first generation products. Longer term, the system will be further developed past this first generation with technology and ICT overlays that, taken to its conclusion, will create an automated biomass management and farming system with the company providing the operating system as well as the containment system in a seamless integration of hardware and software. The company is employing "rapid prototyping" technology to meet these aggressive goals.

Geeks on Ice Rumble on National Television

Geeks on Ice members join Mark and Calum on their quest to find the best ball hockey mad city in Canada

Moncton, NB, January 19, 2007: The hub city will be the setting for the 10th episode of Road Hockey Rumble. Each week the hosts, Mark and Calum, draft local players and face off in a game of road hockey! For the winner, bragging rights and beer...while the loser gets punished!

On the road Mark and Calum tap into the rivalries, legends and elbow-to-the-face grit of Canada's most colorful and competitive towns. In the border town of Lloydminster, AB, it's the Albertans vs. the Saskatchewanians. In Toronto it's Torontonians who were born there against players from other Canadian cities who now live in Toronto, but despise it.

Producers picked High Tech vs. Old Industry as the rivalry for the Moncton episode. Moncton’s transformation from the transportation sector to high tech was a natural fit for the show’s storyline, coupled with Moncton’s reputation as a mad hockey town. The producers indicated that they were drawn to Moncton because of the Geeks on Ice group combined with Moncton’s amazing transformation over the last 20 years.

“The show is not for the faint of heart!” says Trevor Macausland, Geeks on Ice Founder.
“While the show serves as entertainment to the audience, the game is very real and the players take the competition very seriously. There is colorful language used between Mark and Calum. The hosts have a very competitive rivalry which projects onto the small screen”.

The Moncton episode airs on the Outdoor Life Network on Wednesday March 17th, 2007 at 9:30 PM, then repeats on Saturdays at 7:30 PM. For more information on Road Hockey Rumble visit their website at

Dear Jim...

Dear Mr. Balsillie,

RIM’s deadline to register a team in the annual Geeks on Ice hockey tournament has now passed. It is regrettable that we have not received a response from you or an associate at RIM regarding your intentions. Our committee of volunteers does realize your schedule and pressing business concerns might have conflicted with the urgency for a response to our invitation.

The personal invitations from dozens of community leaders still stands. You can read each letter on our website at: www.GeeksonIce.com.

I want to reinforce our desire to have you participate in our special event. While team registration has passed and all 16 team slots have been filled, we do have openings for free agent players to take the ice with a registered Geeks on Ice team. If you are looking to connect with your inner child and take a break from your busy work schedule, I can guarantee that skating in our hockey tournament will provide you the opportunity to do so.

Our group has come under criticism that the “Draft Jim from Rim” campaign is just a thinly veiled attempt to ask for charitable donations or lobby for work. I assure you that our decision to launch a campaign was solely based on the “coolness” factor of skating next to Jim Balsillie. As a benefit to your reputation, we do realize that your participation would also attract the attention of the general public to help change the perception of our industry’s image throughout Atlantic Canada.

Do not miss this great opportunity to meet hundreds of technology professionals and connect with your inner child. We would appreciate the consideration of a response from you or an associate regarding your intentions. I can be reached by telephone at (506) 855-0005 or by email at tmacausland@gmail.com.

Thank you,
