Season's Greetings...

As we all take a much needed break to spend time with our families and loved ones, I can't help but reflect on what's to come for 2006?

I look back to 2003 when I founded GOI with the goal to serve as a networking catalyst and promotion of knowledge industry firms and professionals from the atlantic region. However, I quickly discovered that we can also use this great event to contribute to the improvement of our communities.

In our third year, GOI has grown from 8 to 16 teams from all over the Maritimes, which results in approximately 300 participants this year from the local knowledge industry. Last year, our event managed to collect a total of $1650.00 and sponsored a Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life team.

For 2006, our committee has decided to use the proceeds from this year’s tournament to help purchase computers, peripherals and software for a local non-profit organization.

The recipient of our industries generousity will be Support for Single Parents. Since 1982, they have had a mandate to improve the quality of life for single parents and their children.

This non-profit organization conducts various parenting, personal development and support workshops. Since most of their ressources go towards services, they face a gigantic challenge to keep up with current technology trends that enable them to deliver these crutial services.

To give you a better idea of what they have accomplished in the past year here are some stats:

  • Delivered 4800 units of service.

  • Had 1097 participants attended one or more of the 60 workshops and programs offered.

  • Had 2718 callers requested information, resources or referrals.

  • Benefited 1063 individuals whom utilized their clothing bank, lending library resource material, housing referrals, legal information, individual support, referral, or guidance.

As you can see, there are many people touched by this non-profit and you can imagine the tremendouse obstacles the organization faces when delivering these services.

I take great pride that we can help a worthwhile cause and I look forward to meeting all of you at this years event. I want to thank all of you for truly making a difference in our region in 2006 and wish you and your family a prosperous New Year!

Happy Holidays,
